Why Do We Need to Know about Compound Words?

Introduction:
Compound Words are EVERYWHERE!!
Did you brush your teeth today? What did you brush your teeth with? TOOTHBRUSH and TOOTHPASTE!
Did ANYONE have BREAKFAST this morning? Did ANYONE eat lunch this AFTERNOON?

Let's take a look:
Well, notice that the words that have all capital letters are compound words. When we read, we will also see compound words.We need to be able to identify compound words.

What's next:
We can sometimes figure out the meaning of compound words if we know the meaning of the smaller words that make it up.
